Elevating Care at UNC Health Nash
TWIN COUNTY MEDIA
Big things are happening at UNC Health Nash — and we mean that literally. A brand-new seven-story inpatient tower is on the horizon, marking one of the most ambitious expansions in the hospital’s history. But this isn’t just about building upward — it’s about building a healthier, stronger community.
The new tower, set to begin construction this year, will include 150 private inpatient rooms, each designed with more space, natural light, and private showers. These aren’t just cosmetic upgrades — they’re essential features that promote healing, reduce stress, and offer comfort to patients and their families during some of life’s most difficult moments.
For Rocky Mount and the surrounding region, this expansion means greater access to high-quality care close to home. Fewer families will have to travel long distances for specialty or inpatient services. Instead, they’ll receive top-tier care in a modern, patient-centered facility right here in our own backyard.
It’s not just the patients who will benefit — the entire community stands to gain. This project will attract top talent and strengthen the city’s reputation as a regional medical hub. The improved infrastructure, better parking, and streamlined access points will also make it easier for everyone to get the care they need when they need it most.
Perhaps most impressively, this multi-phase expansion is being fully funded by UNC Health Nash through a mix of reserves and tax-free bonds. That kind of investment speaks volumes about their commitment to this community and its future. There will still be opportunities for local supporters to get involved through naming rights and sponsorships, allowing individuals and businesses to leave a lasting legacy.
Of course, growth brings temporary changes — and many in the community have already noticed them. As part of the early construction phase, traffic patterns around the hospital have shifted, signage has been updated, and the main entrance has been temporarily relocated. While these changes may take some getting used to, the team at UNC Health Nash is working diligently to keep transitions smooth and ensure patient care remains uninterrupted.
When the tower opens in late 2027, it will be more than a new building. It will be a promise kept — a bold step forward for healthcare in Rocky Mount. It’s a sign that our community is growing, thriving, and ready to meet the future with strength and compassion.
