Young Achievers of Nash & Edgecombe: Celebrating the Rising Stars of 2025

In Nash and Edgecombe counties, a new generation of young leaders is emergingâeach one carving their own path toward greatness. From the classroom to the sports field, from the arts to community service, these young achievers are already making a difference, proving that age is no barrier when it comes to leaving a lasting impact.
Brycen Kent â 9th Grade, Rocky Mount Academy
âHard work pays off. You just have to believe in yourself.â
Brycen Kent is the embodiment of dedication. A multi-sport athlete involved in football, wrestling, and track, he balances his athletic pursuits with exceptional academic performance. A standout mathlete, Brycen is humble and inspiring, setting his sights on becoming an orthopedic surgeon to give back to his community. His work ethic and leadership make him a role model to his peers.
Tristen Harvey â 5th Grade, Edwards Elementary
âMajor League dreams. Major effort.â
Tristen Harvey is already demonstrating the qualities of a future star. A 5th-grade scholar-athlete with a love for baseball, Tristen is not only excelling in the classroom but also showing leadership on the court. With dreams of playing Major League Baseball or becoming an engineer, Tristenâs determination and focus are setting the foundation for a bright future.
Sarah Habib â Senior, Rocky Mount Academy
From escaping Afghanistan with her family to thriving in a new country, Sarah Habibâs story is one of resilience and determination. A straight-A student and National Honor Society member, Sarah excels in subjects like Public Speaking and AP U.S. History. With plans to major in Biology or Pre-Med, she aspires to become a doctor, using her experiences to guide others through challenges with empathy and grace.
Claire Schwarz â 4th Grade, Coopers Elementary
âYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.â
Claire Schwarz may only be in 4th grade, but her academic excellence and leadership have already left a mark on her teachers and classmates. A passionate reader with dreams of becoming a teacher, Claire exemplifies the qualities of a future educatorâkindness, focus, and a love of learning.
Josiah Rawls â 9th Grade, Rocky Mount Academy
âI want to play professional soccerâand Iâm going to get there one day.â
Josiah Rawls is a force both on the field and in the classroom. As a straight-A student and leader at Rocky Mount Academy, Josiahâs talent for soccer is matched only by his character. His determination and work ethic inspire his peers, and his ambition to play professional soccer reflects his commitment to excellence, both in sports and in life.
Heaven Morgan â Junior, North Edgecombe High School
âI love being a part of something bigger than myself.â
A natural leader and theater enthusiast, Heaven Morgan excels in everything she does. As president of multiple clubs and an active performer, she brings creativity and enthusiasm to her school. Heavenâs dream of pursuing early childhood education will no doubt have a profound impact on the young minds she will one day teach.
Nuriana Rauda-Lopez â 9th Grade, North East Carolina Prep
âI want to study medicine or agriculture and help people thrive.â
Nuriana is already a standout at North East Carolina Prep. Not only does she excel in academics, but sheâs also an advocate for others, mentoring her peers and chartering a HOSA chapter to explore medical careers. Whether studying, leading, or volunteering, Nurianaâs compassion and ambition are shaping her path toward a future in healthcare.
Hank Berry â Senior, Rocky Mount Academy
Calm, kind-hearted, and admired by all, Hank Berry is known for his leadership and academic excellence. As a National Honor Society member and recipient of multiple academic awards, Hank sets a high standard for those around him. He plans to attend NC State University to study Business Administration, where his entrepreneurial spirit is sure to shine.
Clay Bass â Senior, North East Carolina Prep
âEvery challenge is a chance to grow stronger.â
Clay Bass is already well on his way to a career in education, thanks to his dual enrollment in both Nash and Edgecombe Community Colleges. A committed student and future educator, Clayâs perseverance and commitment to his goals set him apart. Heâs a role model for his peers, demonstrating that growth comes from embracing challenges head-on.
Isabella Daza â Senior, Rocky Mount Academy
Known for her leadership and athleticism, Isabella Daza has earned the WRAL Extra Effort Award for her contributions both on and off the court. A consistent honor student, Isabella plans to pursue Global Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, with dreams of becoming a diplomat or lawyer. Her drive and passion inspire others to aim high and lead with purpose.
Caleb Anderson â Senior, North East Carolina Prep
âBeing part of Unified Club changed my life.â
Caleb Anderson is a beacon of positivity and inclusion. As a dedicated member of the Special Olympics Unified Club, Calebâs leadership has fostered a spirit of unity at his school. His infectious enthusiasm and commitment to growing both personally and within his community make him a remarkable young man. His future looks bright, as he plans to attend college and continue his journey of growth and achievement.
Naomi Price â Senior, Tarboro High School
âWords matter. I use mine to make a difference.â
A poet, activist, and leader, Naomi Price is making waves at Tarboro High. Known for her involvement in student government and creative writing, Naomi hopes to publish her own book and mentor young writers. Her dedication to social impact and the power of words will leave a lasting legacy in Eastern NC.
Robert Coleman â 9th Grade, Rocky Mount Academy
âI love to build things and solve problems.â
A future engineer, Robert Coleman is known for his technical expertise and problem-solving skills. His teachers describe him as thoughtful, helpful, and focused. Robert plans to pursue robotics or mechanical engineering, and his passion for innovation will no doubt lead him to a successful future.
