Edgecombe to NC State: New Opportunities for Local Students

A new partnership is opening doors for students in Edgecombe County—and it’s creating a clearer path from community college to one of North Carolina’s top universities.

Edgecombe Community College has officially joined Wolfpack Connect, a program with North Carolina State University that offers guaranteed admission for eligible students. For many local families, that changes everything.

Through this program, students who complete an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree, maintain strong academic standing, and follow a guided transfer pathway can secure a spot at NC State in one of more than 100 majors.

That guarantee removes one of the biggest uncertainties students face: Will I get in?

Instead, students can start their journey at ECC with confidence, knowing that if they meet the requirements, their path to a four-year degree is already within reach.

This matters especially for first-generation and place-bound students—those who may not have the resources or ability to immediately attend a university far from home. Programs like Wolfpack Connect allow students to begin close to home, save on costs, and still access a high-quality university education later.

It also provides something just as important: direction.

With structured transfer guides and planning tools, students aren’t navigating college blindly. They’re building toward a clear goal from day one, with coursework aligned to their future major and support along the way.

But beyond individual success, this partnership reflects a larger shift.

Opportunities that once felt out of reach for many rural students are becoming more accessible. Edgecombe County students are now part of a statewide initiative designed to expand access, reduce barriers, and create real pathways to higher education.

And that’s where the impact is felt most.

This isn’t just about transferring schools—it’s about expanding possibilities. It’s about showing students that where they start does not limit where they can go.

For Edgecombe County, it’s a powerful step forward.

And for local students, it’s a reminder that the path to something bigger may be closer—and more achievable—than ever before.
