Nash Community College (NCC) is making headlines—not just in North Carolina, but nationwide. In a remarkable recognition of its quality and accessibility, NCC has been named the 11th Best Community College in North Carolina by WalletHub and has also earned a spot on USA Today’s 2025 list of Best Vocational Schools, receiving a coveted five-star rating.
These accolades reflect the college’s ongoing commitment to providing affordable, high-quality education while preparing students for meaningful careers. WalletHub’s ranking assessed more than 650 community colleges across the country using 18 key indicators, including tuition costs, graduation rates, and student-faculty ratios. “Being recognized as one of the top community colleges in the state reflects the incredible work of our faculty, staff, and students,” said NCC President Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt. “At Nash, we are committed to delivering an excellent, affordable education that empowers our students to achieve their goals without sacrificing quality for cost.”
Community colleges like NCC offer students an invaluable alternative to four-year universities, providing flexible scheduling, smaller class sizes, and a pathway to both career readiness and university transfer—all at a fraction of the cost. For comparison, tuition for a full-time, in-state student at a public two-year college averaged $4,050 in 2024–2025, versus $11,610 at a public four-year institution.
NCC’s excellence extends beyond affordability. USA Today recognized the college for its outstanding vocational programs, ranking it among just seven community colleges in North Carolina to receive the publication’s highest five-star rating. The list spotlights institutions that excel in preparing students for in-demand careers through hands-on programs that align with workforce needs.
NCC offers a wide range of programs in fields such as health sciences, skilled trades, advanced manufacturing, public service, technology, and cybersecurity. Students gain industry-relevant skills and certifications, positioning them for immediate employment or further education. Programs like Electric Line Construction, Welding, Automotive Systems, Criminal Justice, and Nursing exemplify the college’s focus on workforce readiness.
“Our programs not only prepare graduates for meaningful employment but also meet the evolving workforce needs of our region and state,” Dr. Hunnicutt added. “Being included on USA Today’s list affirms our commitment to excellence and to the future success of our students.”
With strong partnerships with local employers and a mission dedicated to lifelong learning, Nash Community College continues to be a cornerstone for education and workforce development in Rocky Mount and the surrounding region.
