The Fall of Opportunity - How Rocky Mount Is Opening Doors This Season

This fall, opportunity is knocking across Rocky Mount. From inspiration and coaching for women, to open community hiring, to a college campus career fair, three major events are giving job seekers multiple ways to take their next step.

At the center is the Eastern Success Sprint on September 10, a powerful day designed to help women facing career challenges not only find jobs, but also rebuild confidence and community.

Eastern Success Sprint — September 10 at Word Tabernacle Church

Unlike a standard job fair, the Eastern Success Sprint offers a full day of inspiration, skill-building, and connection for women.

“The main purpose of this free event is to offer women facing career challenges inspiration, community, and direct access to employers, recruiters, and experts who can provide actionable insights on how to take the next step in their career,” explained Kimberly Arnold, Marketing Director for Dress for Success Triangle NC.

The event begins with keynote speakers and panelists covering practical topics such as:

  • how to improve your résumé,

  • identifying transferable skills,

  • and preparing for interviews.

The afternoon transitions into a job fair with local employers and recruiters ready to hire.

Along the way, attendees receive complimentary résumé reviews, professional headshots, and one-on-one coaching — resources often out of reach but critical to success. “We’re not just preparing women for one step in the process,” Arnold said. “We’re giving them the confidence, tools, and professional polish to compete and thrive in every stage of their job search.”

The need for this kind of event is clear. Rocky Mount was chosen as host because of its central role in the growing presence of Dress for Success in Eastern NC. “Women in this region face unique challenges such as fewer career development resources and limited access to professional networks. At the same time, there’s incredible resilience, talent, and a strong desire to grow,” Arnold noted.

That mix of barriers and potential makes events like this vital. As industries shift due to automation and AI, women balancing family, limited resources, and career transitions need more than résumés — they need support networks.

One past participant captured the impact perfectly, recalling her experience after résumé coaching and connecting with other women:

“I felt so supported! Dress for Success is keeping me from feeling alone in this job search, which can be so difficult for women especially! I am over the moon that I am part of the Dress for Success family!”

Ultimately, Arnold says the goal is long-term empowerment: “We want participants to walk away with hope, confidence, and a network of support — and to know that they’re not alone in this journey.”

Job Fair at Braswell Memorial Library — September 18

Just a week later, Braswell Library hosts a community-wide job fair. Open to all, it provides an accessible venue to meet employers and apply on the spot. For many women who attend Eastern Success Sprint, the Braswell fair is a natural next step — a place to put their updated résumés and fresh confidence into action.

Nash Community College Career Fair — October 28

The season concludes with the Nash CC Career Fair, designed for students, alumni, and early-career professionals. This fair bridges education and employment, helping participants explore internships, apprenticeships, and first professional roles. It’s a direct link between classroom learning and the regional workforce.

Local Support

These three events are part of a broader web of resources in the Twin Counties.

This fall, job seekers in Rocky Mount don’t have just one door to walk through — they have three. For women needing confidence and connections, for community members ready to meet employers, and for students launching their careers, opportunity is opening wide.
