Thousands of Tiny Turtles. One Big Impact.

One of the Twin Counties' most unique fundraisers is making a splash once again this fall.

The Annual Teeny Tiny Turtles on the Tar returns to Rocky Mount Mills on Saturday, September 19, 2026, inviting the community to enjoy a fun-filled morning while supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region. Every turtle adopted helps fund programs that empower local youth and provide opportunities for more than 1,800 children across Nash and Edgecombe Counties.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Tar River Region is to inspire and enable all young people—especially those who need them most—to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. Through after-school programs, academic support, mentorship, character development, and healthy lifestyle initiatives, the organization works every day to ensure local youth have the resources they need to succeed.

The fundraiser is simple, family-friendly, and full of excitement. Participants adopt one or more rubber turtles, each randomly assigned a tag number before race day. At approximately 10 a.m., 2,000 tiny turtles will be launched into the Tar River at Rocky Mount Mills, racing toward the finish line for a chance to win exciting prizes. The first three turtles to cross the finish line will earn prizes for their adopters, and you do not have to be present to win.

Turtles can be adopted in several ways:

  • 1 Turtle – $5

  • 5 Turtles – $20

  • 12 Turtles (A Bale of Turtles) – $50

While the race is sure to bring smiles and friendly competition, its purpose goes far beyond the finish line. Every turtle adopted directly supports programs that help local children grow academically, develop strong character and leadership skills, and build healthy futures. It's a fun way for families, businesses, and community members to make a meaningful difference while cheering on thousands of tiny turtles.

Whether you're adopting your first turtle or returning for another year, Teeny Tiny Turtles on the Tar is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a one-of-a-kind community tradition while investing in the future of local youth.

🐢 The race takes place Saturday, September 19, at Rocky Mount Mills, with the turtle launch scheduled for approximately 10 a.m.
