25 Years of Growing: Discover the Nash County Arboretum

You don't have to travel far to find a peaceful place filled with flowers, greenery and plenty to learn along the way.
Located at the Nash County Agriculture Center in Nashville, the Nash County Arboretum has been serving the local community since 2001. This year marks the 25th anniversary of both the Arboretum and Nash County’s Extension Master Gardener Volunteer program.
The Arboretum’s gardens are designed, planted and maintained by NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteers, who have helped create a collection of spaces that visitors can explore throughout the year. Best of all, the Arboretum is open for self-guided exploration 365 days a year.
There’s more to see than you might expect.
Visitors can walk through a Rose Garden, Terraced Garden and Woodland Garden before exploring areas dedicated to pollinators, rain gardens, hollies and more. The Arboretum also includes a 4-H Garden, Patriot Garden and Tranquility Garden. A historic log cabin sits on the grounds as well and is planned to become the heart of a new Homestead Garden, designed as a recreation of an old homestead.
While the gardens offer a beautiful place to walk, the Arboretum also has an educational purpose. Its botanical collections allow visitors to learn more about different plants, and free educational tours throughout the year provide practical information for home gardeners.
There are still several opportunities to take part in those tours this fall. Rain Garden Ready is scheduled for September 11, followed by Seed Saving Simplified on October 9 and Brilliant Bulbs on November 13. Tours are free, although registration is requested, and are led by Extension Master Gardener volunteers.
The Arboretum also welcomes families and photographers to use its gardens as backdrops for outdoor portraits, giving visitors another way to enjoy the space.
After 25 years, the Nash County Arboretum continues to offer our community a place to discover something new, learn more about the plants growing around us or simply enjoy a walk through the gardens.
