Labor Day Weekend in the Twin Counties: Events, Deals & Things to Do

The long weekend is almost here, and there are plenty of ways to enjoy Labor Day without traveling far from home. From local shopping and live music to family activities and one last taste of summer, the Twin Counties have several ways to fill your weekend.

The weekend kicks off Friday night in Downtown Rocky Mount with the final First Friday Night Market of the 2026 season. From 7 to 10 p.m., the downtown area will feature more than 60 local vendors, food and drinks, music, dancing and activities for kids. Admission is free, making it an easy way to start the holiday weekend while supporting local businesses.

Live music is also on the schedule at The Prime Smokehouse at Rocky Mount Mills, where Karla Harris is set to perform Friday and Saturday nights from 9 to 11 p.m. Rocky Mount Mills also offers plenty of options for grabbing a bite or a drink and spending an evening out during the long weekend.

Saturday morning, runners and walkers can head to Stith-Talbert Park for the Medal Madness 5K, 10K & Half Marathon. The races begin at 8:30 a.m., with several distances available for those looking to start their Saturday on the move.

If you're looking for a Labor Day deal, Flying Iron Harley-Davidson is hosting its Clear the Hangar Sidewalk SaleSaturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers can find up to 50% off select in-stock licensed merchandise, including shirts, riding gear and accessories.

Families can also squeeze in one more summer outing at Sunset Park. Labor Day weekend marks the final weekend of the amusement center's season, giving families another chance to enjoy the miniature train, antique carousel, spray park and kiddie ride before the season comes to a close.

Even without a packed schedule of official Labor Day festivals, the long weekend is a great opportunity to shop local, grab dinner or drinks at a favorite Twin Counties spot, explore downtown, or enjoy some time outside.
