Nash County Farmers Market Receives $308,000 for Major Expansion

The Nash County Farmers Market is getting ready to grow.

The market has received $308,000 in state funding to support an expansion that includes plans for a permanent general store, commercial kitchen and community garden. The funding marks a significant investment in a market that has been connecting local farmers and shoppers for more than two decades.

The permanent general store is currently expected to open in spring 2027, although details surrounding the store and its operations are still being finalized.

The expansion comes as the Farmers Market continues to see strong community participation. According to Nash County, approximately 55,000 customers visited the market between April and December last year, with around 80 vendors selling locally produced items throughout the season.

The Nash County Farmers Market has been part of the community since April 2005. Managed by the Nash County Center of N.C. Cooperative Extension, the regional market was created to give area farmers a place to sell products they produce themselves while supporting the long-term preservation and growth of the local farming community. The facility was expanded in 2008 with support from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission and Nash County.

Today, shoppers can find locally produced agricultural products at the market throughout its season, while the market also serves as a gathering place for farmers, vendors and community members.

With new funding secured and expansion plans taking shape, the next chapter for the Nash County Farmers Market could bring even more opportunities for local agriculture and the community it serves.

The Nash County Farmers Market is located at 1006 Peachtree Street in Rocky Mount. For the remainder of the 2026 season, the market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through October and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in November and December.
