Peacemakers of Rocky Mount serves under-resourced communities and individuals in our area. They provide job and skill training, along with other opportunities to help individuals become self-sustaining.
One program available through Peacemakers is Hometown Hires, which is a free program that provides job and employment training including building a resume, interview guidance, and more. The next session of Hometown Hires begins on February 6. If you are interested in participating, you can apply here or call 252.212.5044 to register.
Peacemakers also offers Freedom School, which is a 7-week summer program designed to help young scholars develop a love for learning and reading by equipping them to be successful. Students see significant growth in their reading levels during the program. Peacemakers also provides free after-school tutoring for students in the area.
After several years of successfully offering education programs, Southside Academy launched in partnership with Peacemakers in Fall 2022 to provide quality private education at a low cost to under-resourced children in the community.
Jesse Lewis, Executive Director of Peacemakers, said the best thing about the school is how well the kids are doing and how much they are learning through the classical curriculum.
In its first year, Southside Academy served 27 scholars in Kindergarten and first grade. The school is currently accepting applications for next year for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The application deadline is February 17, 2023.
There is a silent auction running through Feb. 3 at 8:45 p.m. EST with a variety of great items including gift certificates, gym memberships, dinners, vacations, a Super Bowl party, and much more. All proceeds will go to help meet the needs of the school.
In addition, this Friday night as the silent auction concludes, Southside Academy will host a trivia night fundraising event at Rise Church in Rocky Mount. Tickets are $25 for an individual or $100 for a team of four. Be sure to register here before the deadline on Wednesday, Feb. 1. They expect to have about forty teams compete. There will be a variety of prizes available, and, most importantly, the event provides a fun way to support a great cause.
Peacemakers and Southside Academy are helping the community by equipping children and adults for a better future. You can donate to Peacemakers or Southside Academy if you would like to support their work.
