A New Era for Young Professionals — and a Night to Celebrate It

Five years ago, the story of Rocky Mount was about what it used to be. Today, the story is about what it’s becoming. From new industries and housing initiatives to a revitalized downtown, the Twin Counties are writing a new chapter — and the Chamber of Commerce is making sure young professionals are part of every page.

This fall, the Chamber officially relaunched the Young Professionals Network, a group designed for members in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s — but open to all who want to connect, collaborate, and lead. The mission? To create a space where talent doesn’t just work, but thrives.

Since the relaunch, meetups have sparked new friendships, business connections, and a sense of belonging among peers who share the same career ambitions and challenges. “This group is about more than exchanging LinkedIn profiles,” says a Chamber representative. “It’s about creating a true community — one that supports each other and celebrates together.”

And speaking of celebrating — there’s no better time to gather than at one of the Chamber’s most anticipated traditions: the 33rd Annual Oyster Roast, presented by Brightspeed, happening Thursday, October 16, from 6–9 PM.

This year’s event is the perfect blend of networking and pure fun — a place where seasoned business owners, new entrepreneurs, and young professionals can all connect under the stars. Guests will feast on all-you-can-eat oysters, shrimp, catfish, chicken tenders, and savory sides while enjoying live music from Liquid Pleasure, one of the Southeast’s favorite bands. And if you’re feeling brave? Take a spin on the mechanical bull from Sparkling Creations and see how long you can last.

Tickets are $100 for Chamber Members and $115 for Non-Members, including beverages. Bring your friends, family, and colleagues (ages 21+) for a night that’s part community gathering, part celebration of Rocky Mount’s momentum.

The energy behind both the Young Professionals Network and the annual Oyster Roast reflects something bigger — a community that’s not just talking about growth, but living it. With major employers like Pfizer and Nutkao expanding, new housing on the horizon, and downtown continuing to thrive, Rocky Mount is no longer a place you leave to find opportunity — it’s where opportunity is being built.

The Chamber’s sponsors, including Cummins, Simmons & Harris, Southern Bank, Allegra, and this year’s Oyster Roast presenting sponsor Brightspeed, are helping shape that vision. Their investment in events like these underscores a shared belief: Rocky Mount’s future is bright, bold, and right here at home.

So whether you’re new to the area, newly inspired, or just ready for a good time — grab your ticket, roll up your sleeves, and join us. The oysters will be fresh, the music will be loud, and the conversations might just spark your next big idea.
