Back to School Preparedness Guide

As families prepare for kids to head back to school, there are a number of opportunities to enjoy some family time together in the Twin Counties. Our area also has several events offering backpacks and school supplies to make sure your family has everything they need for the start of the school year.

Back to School Supply Giveaway | Thursday, August 10 | 5–7 p.m. | M.A. Ray Center, 1405 MLK Drive, Tarboro | Free school supplies while it lasts

Back to School Bash | Friday, August 11 | 5–8:30 p.m. | South Rocky Mount Community Center | 3 on 3 basketball tournament | Free food, game trucks, live music, bouncy houses, and over 500 free backpacks.

Back to Fun. Back to School Bash | Saturday, August 12 | 10 a.m. –12 p.m. | Harrison Family YMCA, Kel Landis III Outdoor Pavilion | Family friendly activities, STEAM activities, games, arts, crafts, and more. | Also a chance to win a free month of before and afterschool care | Bring 5 non-perishable food items for an extra entry into the drawing

Operation Backpack Blessing | Saturday, August 12 | 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. | GMBC, 8438 Town Creek Rd, Rocky Mount | Worship, singing, hotdog lunch, bounce houses, and free backpacks filled with school supplies (225 backpack limit).

Back 2 School Jam | Saturday, August 19 | 3–6 p.m. | Rocky Mount Event Center | Live DJ, free giveaways, face painting, henna tattoos, basketball, volleyball, cornhole, bounce house, obstacle courses, slides, playtime in Game Day, food from concessions, and more! | Surprise special guests | 160 free backpacks for school aged children with adults
